     When we think of Peddapuram, every one of us will remember places like “ pandavula metta with sun temple on it, Maharaja’s Havelli (guest house)

     And beautiful silk sarees. We also recall the philonthrohy of the vatsavai Maharaja’s appreciate the poetry of its well known poets laureates like Enugula Lakshmana kavi and Sri Vedula satyannarayana sastry . Peddapuram is prominent both historically and also its cultural heritage. In fact it is crown among all towns.

Glorious days of Maharaja’s time:

     Historical documents suggest that the town peddapuram is founded by Maharaja Pedapathrudu. For 300 years the estate of peddapuram was ruled by vatsavai jagapathi maharaja’s . The dynasty was started by Sri Raja Vatsavai Chathur bhuja Thimma jagapathi Bahadhur. The fort of peddapuram was built by him. He ruled the estate from 1555 to 1607. After his demise, his sons Raya jagapthi and after him, his children Timma jagapathi and Balabhadra jagapathi ruled the peddapuram estate. From 1791 to 1804 the estate was ruled by sri Vatsavai Raya Jagapathi.

     By the time of 1785 the peddapuram estate extended from thotapalli to nagaram town for a total of 585 villages and towns. During British rule Sri Raya Jagapathi was choosen to take over the estate in 1802. He has three wives, Lakshmi Narasayyamma, Buchi Seethayyamma and Buchi Bangarayyamma. After Sri Rai Jagapathi’s death thethree Wives ruled the estate in succession.

Crown jewel Buchi Seetayyamma garu:

     She ruled the estate from 1828 to 1835 . She founded two poor feeding trusts, one at peddapuram and another at kathipudi. Even today the poor are fed for free twice a day.

     Due to lack of children the estate was briefly ruled by Sri Suryanarayana Jagapathi Bahadhur until 1847 before it was taken over by British East India Company.

     After the golden years through jagapathi Maharajas rule, the town was made as revenue head division by the English and Munsif court and Lutheran High School were started.

Peddapuram Municipality:

                                                                                                                                        
     The town was upgraded from panchayat Board to full pledged municipality in 1915 and thus became the second oldest municipality after Bheemunipatanam in Andhra Pradesh. Initially the British appointed Sri V. K. Ananthakrishna Aiyar followed by Sri Abhinava patnayak and Sri Pingali Krishnarao. Sri Goli Kondayya was the first one direct elected as Chairman of the municipality. Sri Muppana Ramarao was the first chairperson, who solved the problem of water storage. This project was later explanded when smt. Batchu sridevi was chairperson and expanded water project plan was fully implanted under the tenure of the Ex-Chairman Sri Raja Suri Babu.
